Himalayan Light Foundation’s Solar Sisters Program offers international traveler / philanthropists an incredible opportunity to visit some of the most remote and majestic sites in the world, live with indigenous communities, and promote environmental and social justice by sponsoring the installation of a solar energy system.
Who are Solar Sisters
"Solar Sisters” are men and women from across the globe, students and professionals, individuals, retired people and

groups. Participants come from all walks of life, and no specific skills or experience is required. All participants have a commitment to environmental justice and equitable distribution of resources as well as a desire to truly engage with and responsibly experience the villages of the mountains, tropical forests, and plateaus of South Asia through an eco-travel experience. Volunteers are interested in a variety of subjects, including: sustainability, biodiversity, mountaineering, renewable energy, trekking, Sherpa culture, indigenous culture and knowledge, Buddhism, Hinduism, Tibetan culture, Asian culture, tropical and rain forests, eco-tourism, Himalayan mountains, meditation, and more. One only needs the willingness to participate and the commitment to support the purchase and installation of a solar energy power system to a pre-qualified recipient village.
